The importance of washing and cleaning your food

Touch anything crazy or gross lately or today?  Well, if you did, then make sure you lick your fingers right after so you can consume all the necessary germs. JK! What I’m trying to say is if you’re making an effort to eat well, it doesn’t matter how you do it or say it, just make sure you don’t give up on it.
In regards to my life and this past week, I’d like to share with you the importance of washing and cleaning your food. It is your first line of defense against bad bacteria and other germs. Actually, before you go and touch your food, you should wash your hands and do it well. You don’t necessarily need hot piping water, just soap. In fact, when washing your food,  yes you can spend money on a food wash spray, but I’m trying to save you money in your pocketbook. You may use soap such as dish detergent to scrub your fruit and vegetables. Rinse them well and your good to go.
So back to my specific week. Let’s just say the bathroom was my dedicated room for the past week. I practically lived in there. This ever happen to you? What’s the 1st thing you do? I’ll tell you what I did, I back tracked and thought about all foods I ate the days leading to the big, uhum, dump. Ha. I didn’t necessarily find a food that made me say, Oh yea, “this is what made me sick. So to this day, I don’t know what it is. As careful as I may be, you can never be too certain how clean the foods really are.
My story today begins with me cleaning my self up and out. I’ve purchase large fresh beets because of their nutrient dense factors. Beets are high in immune-boosting vitamin C, fiber, and essential minerals like potassium and manganese. Beets also contain the B vitamin folate.
Once my body got a grasp on things, I vowed to wash the heck out of my fruit and veggies. So I did.
One of the easiest ways to cook beets are by boiling. Large pot, full 3/4 of the way with water, flame on high, boil beets right from the start. In about 45 mins your beets will be soft enough to eat. The trick is to peel away the skin over the sink until the soft and silky beet is left. Cut the top and bottom root pieces off, then slice or string-ify them. You can definitely eat them plain because they have an amazing texture. Other methods of beet eating include a sprinkle of salt, cayenne pepper, or simply joining them with some pickles. I opted to add beets in a salad and call it a day. Works for me and it just might work for you. Garnish and serve and you have a reason to present goodness to your dinner table.
