Bring the perfect side dish to the bbq

It’s 4th of July weekend and all of your friends are gearing up to light the grill and eat until the fireworks hit the night skies. So here you are trying to figure out what you are going to bring to the Q. Lord only knows you are super excited that it’s not at your house this time around. The thought of cleaning up after one too many drinks and way too much chips with dip doesn’t sound too exciting. Bringing something light and tasty to the party can win everyone over. There’s nothing wrong with the perfect side. So how do you choose? Well, think about what’s trending and will taste delicious yet won’t leave everyone lined up at the bathroom at your friends house.

The first thought I had was a nice delectable quinoa salad. Something everyone can enjoy and most can try for the first time. Trust me…it’s a big hit! What are you waiting for? Get to the grocery store…preferably Trader Joe’s when buying quinoa. They have a good amount for a descent price. Grab the lime, some cilantro, garlic, honey, olives(green with pimento or black olives), and fresh spinach. Seems simple? That’s because it is! All of that for under 20 bucks. You can’t beat it.

Once you get home, turn up the heat and boil some quinoa, adding salt and garlic to the water for some flavor. Plain quinoa can be just that, pretty bland. Wash your spinach and cute it up. Pick up a bowl and mix your honey, cilantro, and lime juice up for a nice drizzle over the salad. Once your quinoa is done, let it sit to cool. Now to complete your salad, drop your olives, quinoa, and drizzle over the salad and toss that baby up.

Quinoa salad to go! The best thing about bringing this perfect side to the bbq is that it can warm up and still be very refreshing. This salad doesn’t require staying cool. And because all of the ingredients are so zesty, there’s no need to worry about it spoiling in the hot sun. Happy 4th of July! Enjoy your salad and tell your family/friends where you picked up the recipe!!
