What is soda really doing for your body

 How soda impacts your body?

It’s summer time! That means pools are opened and the heat is to the max! Nothing taste better than an icy cold Soda! But what is soda really doing for your body? Do you notice after you drink soda you feel tired and/or sluggish? Soda weakens your bones and rots your teeth! Yet, soda is one of the most consumed beverages in the United States, second only to water. Here in the States, Americans guzzle 57 gallons of soda per person every year.  The threat of reaching obese levels, researchers also found after following 40,000 men for two decades. A recent study revealed that people who drank a regular soda every day for six months saw a 132 to 142 percent increase in liver fat.

But why are we addicted?

Caffeine is the world’s most popular psychoactive drug and it’s reported that more than 80% of Americans have it in some form every day. Soon after you drink something like Coke with high levels of caffeine in it, it is absorbed through our small intestine and into your bloodstream.  It blocks your nerve cell activity and makes you feel energy, or for others anxiety. Your body tries to compensate by producing another stimulant like adrenaline. And that’s how we become so addicted.

What it effects?

The acid in the soda eats away at your tooth enamel causing tooth decay. Yuck! Who wants rotten teeth?! Soda also contains food dyes which have been known to cause hyperactive behavior and difficulty focusing. Ever drunk a soda then had a sudden rush of energy? That’s the sugars, dyes, caffeine and excessive artificial sweeteners in the soda making it impossible for you to stay still. Not only does soda give you jitters but it also makes you crave the bubbly acid even more! Soda builds body fat due to  the sugars, artificial sweeteners and trans fat that make up the popular choice. Drinking soda excessively can cause kidney failure, UTI and many more complications! Let those pearly whites stay bright, and your waist stay slim. Put down that acid and say yes to H20 instead. Remember a little water never hurt anyone!
